Printmaking with Fionnuala O’Neill

Natural Impressions

In order to create a print, something must be done to one substance in order for another to emerge, there is a series of steps that must be undertaken that lend themselves to the process—to a ritualistic method. An introduction to some simple printmaking techniques will give you the opportunity to discover the potential of using this in an art therapy session.

Using found objects such as leaves and flowers to make impressions we will explore the possibilities of creating a unique print. Working with colour and composition, each print we produce will be a one off, also known as a Monoprint.

During a number of exercises throughout the session you will be encouraged to be spontaneous and enjoy the surprise aspect of the print going through the press. Learn how to create your own monoprints from simple drawings and experiment using different mark-making techniques onto a thick card before transferring your image onto paper using a press. This is a colourful and fun course that is suitable for complete beginners.
